Faculty Resources

Throughout this effort, as we continuously seek to improve writing both within the discipline and across the curriculum, we will post links to a variety of helpful resources. All links are either available to the public, or we have written permission from the authors.

  • Faculty often struggle with differentiating between “writing to learn” and “learning to write”. One emphasizes  time and attention to student engagement with course content; the other emphasizes time and attention to writing processes and formal conventions of writing. Dr. Doug Hesse from the University of Denver has delineated distinctions between Writing to Learn and Learning to Write. For more information, see the full document on the University of Denver Writing Program website.
  • The University Teaching Council (UTC) has worked to create instructional materials to support teaching of writing across disciplines and across various aspects of the baccalaureate experience. These materials are available on the Teaching Academy website. These documents are password protected because access is restricted to NMSU faculty, staff and students with a NMSU username and password.
